Luke Doucet & the White Falcon

Saturday, June 18th - Cogeco Stage - 9:45pm

Juno Award nominated, Canadian Folk Music Award winning artist Luke Doucet has won Canadian and international praise and has topped Best Of lists by The Independent in the UK and the Toronto Star, which gave Blood’s Too Rich the Top Album of the Year in 2009. The album also caught the attention of Nick Hornby, author of High Fidelity, who blogged twice about the record and included Luke in his 2008 Top Ten Playlist. Luke also landed #25 on Paste Magazine’s Top 100 of the Year with the album Broken (and other rogue states).

Against the backdrop of industry and urban renewal, with bats in the attic and feet moving over city and country, the songs of Steel City Trawler emerged line-by-line, kilometer by kilometer. Steel City Trawler comes from the heart of the post-industrial landscape and mindset, where traces of rock eras past and present align with Doucet’s signature guitar chops. From sunup to Sundown, Steel City Trawler is more a day in the life of Luke Doucet than any record before. The album is a finely balanced mix of clever turns of phrase, chords and moods, irreverent bouncy rockers and tender, spacious ballads.

From Winnipeg to Nashville, Cleveland to Hamilton, geography is a constant theme in Luke’s songwriting. Luke is constantly on tour, overseas, across Europe and to South Africa, across Canada and the US, including tours with Blue Rodeo, James Blunt, Josh Rouse and the Cayamo Cruises with all manners of legendary artists. He regularly showcases at conferences from SXSW, the AMAs, NXNE, PopComm and CMW. This summer, Luke toured with Sarah McLachlan as her guitarist throughout the Lilith festival circuit. Luke’s records are often artifacts of these times and places, and always blend personal with political, history with experience. Steel City Trawler is no exception, and it is a fresh and cohesive rock and roll record from an artist who traverses genres like highways.
