Burlington ON (June 3, 2010). Burlington Sound of Music Festival is adding even more green features.
Being green isn't just a trend anymore, it's here to stay and it's something the Festival takes very seriously.
Shuttle Service With almost 200,000 attendees, our continuing goal is to reduce gas emissions and congestion in the downtown core.
Our Shuttle bus service will continue for a second year to offer you a direct link from the Burlington Fairview GO Station to the Festival site. Ample parking is available on both sides of the GO Station. The shuttle service, provided by Burlington Transit, will drop you off at the John Street transit terminal, within a short walking distance to plenty of great music. Hours during the Festival: Friday 6pm to Midnight, Saturday Noon to Midnight and Sunday Noon to 8pm.
Your contribution of $3 per person for a round trip Shuttle ride will help to keep this convenient program sustainable. Park and ride the Shuttle and do your environmental part. Children under 5 are free and we honour valid Burlington Transit transfers.
Bike Corral If you are able to cycle down to the Festival, you can simply check your bike at the Corral - get a ticket - enjoy the Festival, and pick up your bike when you are ready to go. This fenced and supervised area is located near the playground in Spencer Smith Park. The fee is only $2 per bicycle and will go entirely to help support our free Festival. Hours during the Festival: Thursday 6pm to Midnight, Friday 6pm to Midnight, Saturday Noon to Midnight and Sunday Noon to 8pm.
Sorting, Recycling and Composting Annually, Festival volunteers sort over 8 tons of waste (or 2,200 bags). Of this, almost half is diverted from the landfill to recycling and composting. Festival goers are encouraged to participate in the program. Located throughout the Festival grounds are recycling and garbage receptacles. Please help out the Green Team by using the proper receptacle and reduce their sorting efforts.
The Festival continues to look for ways to reduce and divert waste. In the future, we hope to introduce innovative package options for Festival vendors.
We would like to thank our Support Partner, TD Friends of the Environment Foundation and ECO Sponsor, Boehringer Ingelheim
June 17th to 20th will mark Burlington's Sound of Music Festival's 31st year of creating "Four Fabulous Days of Free Music and Fun" along our beautiful picturesque waterfront, Spencer Smith Park, and throughout downtown Burlington. Through the generosity and support of sponsors and the dedication of over 500 volunteers, the Festival continues to be a free event for music lovers of all ages, welcoming close to 190,000 visitors annually.
